ACTION 7 OF 16

How to Find Queries Where AI Recommends Competitors Instead of You

SHORT ANSWER

List 20–30 questions customers ask before they buy, and flag the ones where AI names competitors but not you. Answer each of those questions on its own page, with the answer in the first 2–3 sentences. After 4–6 weeks, check whether the page shows up among the sources of AI answers.

Why it matters

Models pick pages that answer the user’s question precisely. A general service page rarely answers “how much does X cost for a 20-person team” or “which is better for Y.” So AI goes to whoever did. That’s why a dedicated answer page often beats a stronger but more general competitor.

Step by step

  1. List 20–30 questions customers ask before they buy. Pull them from sales calls, emails, and support chats.

  2. Flag the ones where AI names competitors but not you.

  3. Give each question its own page, with the question in the headline.

  4. Make the first paragraph a direct 2–3 sentence answer. Then add details, pricing, and examples.

  5. Link to the new pages from the relevant service pages.

Answer (2–3 sentences): [direct answer with a number].

H2: What affects the price
H2: Sample estimate
H2: How [option A] differs from [option B]

How to know it’s done

Each of your 20 top customer questions has its own page, and within 4–6 weeks you see it among the sources of AI answers.

Common mistake

Choosing topics from keyword research alone. People ask AI longer, more specific questions than they type into Google.

How to find your coverage gaps

Manually: run your 20 questions in ChatGPT and Google AI Mode several times on different days, and note which brands get named. One check tells you nothing. Answers change even for the same query.

If you use Dabudai, open Topics. Each topic shows Coverage, the competitors AI names, and the queries where you’re missing. That’s a ready-made list of topics for your next pages.

Questions

How many pages should we create?

Start with the 5–10 questions where AI names competitors most often. One strong page a week beats 20 weak ones a month.

Isn’t this the same as SEO articles?

It’s similar, but the questions are different. People ask AI longer, more specific questions than they type into Google. So pull topics from customer conversations, not just keyword research.

When will we see results?

New pages usually show up among the sources of AI answers within 4–6 weeks, as long as they’re indexed and accessible to AI crawlers.

We can finally see how AI recommends us

«Before, we had no idea how AI tools recommended our business or how they described it. Now we can see both, and some of the insights turned out to be incredibly useful.»
