ACTION 14 OF 16

How to Fill Out Wikidata and Niche Directories so AI Recognizes Your Company

SHORT ANSWER

Create or check your company’s Wikidata item: name, industry, country, founding year, and website, all with sources. Fill out the directories AI cites in your niche with the same data. Don’t write your own Wikipedia article. Its rules say independent editors should write it.

Why it matters

Consistent facts across trusted databases help a model recognize your company with confidence. When one directory lists an old address and another uses a different name, AI confuses you with someone else or isn’t sure it’s you.

Step by step

  1. Check whether your company is on Wikidata. If it isn’t, create an item.

  2. Fill in the name, organization type, industry, country, founding year, official website, and social profiles.

  3. Add a source to every fact you can: a company registry or a media article.

  4. Fill out the directories AI cites in your niche with the same data.

  5. Don’t write your own Wikipedia article. Under the conflict-of-interest rules, independent editors write it, and only once independent coverage of you exists.

Template: Wikidata fields

Label (name): [Company]
Description: [company type] from [country]
Instance of (P31): business / company
Industry (P452): [industry]
Country (P17): [country]
Inception (P571): [year]
Official website (P856): https://yoursite.com
LinkedIn company ID (P4264): [id]
Reference URL: [link to a registry or media article]

How to know it’s done

You have a Wikidata item with sources, and your name, address, founding year, and website match across Wikidata, directories, and your own site.

Common mistake

Inconsistent data across sources: an old address in one directory, a different name in another. Models confuse your company with others or aren’t sure it’s you.

How to check whether AI knows the basic facts

Ask ChatGPT and Google AI Mode “what is [brand],” “where is [brand] located,” and “when was [brand] founded.” Errors in the answers signal that your data doesn’t match across databases.

If you use Dabudai, Sources shows which directories and databases AI cites in your niche. Start with those.

Questions

Can I write a Wikipedia article about my company?

No. That violates Wikipedia’s conflict-of-interest rules. Independent editors write the article once independent coverage of you exists.

How long does Wikidata take?

About an hour per item, sources included. What matters most is accurate, consistent data.

Which directories should I fill out?

The ones AI cites in your niche: G2 and Capterra for SaaS, Clutch for agencies, and Google Business Profile and local directories for local businesses.
